FOR THE KINGDOM WOMAN WHO’S BEEN BUILDING THIS BUSINESS FOR YEARS AND IS QUIETLY STARTING TO WONDER IF SHE’S THE PROBLEM…

The first thing women say to me when they come into my mentorship is almost always the same sentence. “I’ve been trying to build this for years.” 

And underneath that sentence is a whole conversation they’re not saying out loud. I’m failing. I’m not cut out for this. I’m getting it wrong somewhere. Maybe I heard God wrong about the whole thing. 

That’s disappointment, Sis. And it’s been sitting quiet, deep down on the inside, for a long time. Now, I’ve got testimonials on my sales page from women who say exactly that. “I was stuck for years.” And I actually asked the Lord whether I should be putting that out there publicly. 

He said yes. Because that’s the thing my girl is actually wrestling with… working for years to get her Kingdom business launched and it’s just not…quite…there.

So let’s kill disappointment today. Here’s what you’ll have to realize first if you’re ever going to call a time of death on that sucker: If you put your hope in the wrong thing, you will generate disappointment. 

Once you come to terms with that, I’ve got more for you. Let’s keep going.

Disappointment Isn’t Coming From the Waiting 

The disappointment you’re experiencing isn’t coming from how long it’s taking to see God’s promise come to pass. Not directly. It’s actually coming from where you put your hope. And where you put your hope is a choice.

Which is really good news, because it means you can move it. Today, in about ninety seconds. So let’s find out the wrong (and even slightly wrong) places we’ve been putting our trust. 

Wrong Place #1: Your Own Strength 

Psalm 20:7 says, Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. 

Now sit with what a chariot and a horse actually were to that culture. A chariot was ability. A horse was strength. Those were the two things a nation looked at to decide whether it was going to win. 

So, the question underneath that verse isn’t spiritual poetry. It’s practical: When you sized up your situation, what did you put your trust in?

And Psalm 33:16 gets even more blunt about it. A king isn’t saved by the size of his army. A warrior doesn’t get delivered by how strong he is. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and for all its might, it cannot rescue. 

Here’s how that can show up in your business… God hands you something you’ve never done before. Something nobody in your family has done, nobody in your circle is doing, and He’s over here in Isaiah 43 saying Behold, I’m doing a new thing, do you not perceive it? I’m about to run streams through the desert.

And we roll up on that and think, “Yeah. I can rip that out of the ground. I should be able to do this.” Then we put the whole weight of it on our own shoulders. And when it doesn’t produce on our timeline, the disappointment starts stacking. 

You’re in good company, though. Look at Abraham. God told him he’d be the father of many nations, through his own seed. And Abraham looked at his body, looked at Sarah’s, and essentially said Negative, Ghost Rider. This is not happening.

So what did he do while he waited? He started operating out of his own ability. Sarah suggested Hagar, and Abraham said yes fast.

That’s what disappointment does. The longer it’s not happening, the thirstier we get for the ways of the world. 

Wrong Place #2: And This One Is Going to Sting 

Now most women reading this are already shaking their heads. “Erica, no. That’s not what I’m doing. My hope is in the Lord.” 

Okay. But let’s talk about where it started, because this is the one almost nobody catches. I’m always telling you that if God said it, that settles it. So we hear a word from God and we think, well, I’m relying on the word. I’m standing on the promise. 

Sister, that’s the mistake. Nowhere does Scripture tell you to put your hope in the promise alone. Go read Hebrews 6 and watch what the writer does. He spends the whole passage explaining covenant, and specifically the covenant with Abraham. 

When God made that covenant, tradition required a second witness. There wasn’t one greater to swear by, so God swore by Himself. Why does the writer bother telling us that? Because the point was never the strength of the promise. The point was the character of the One making it.

His promises are good because He is good. So even if God promised you chariots and horses, you still don’t put your hope in the chariots and horses. You keep it in the God who sent them. 

And here’s why this matters so much practically. The second your hope slides off the Promiser and onto the promise, your mind starts painting the picture. You decide what it’s supposed to look like, and when it’s supposed to arrive, and who’s supposed to be involved.

Then reality doesn’t match your painting, and you call that God failing you. Stop putting the stress on said it. Put it on He. If He said it, that settles it. 

Quick Check: Is This Shame You’re Feeling? 

Isaiah 49:23 says Those who trust in God will never be put to shame. And maybe you just pushed back on that because you trusted Him, and it sure felt like shame when you failed. Again.

So let’s check it with one question: Were you disappointed that it didn’t go your way, or did God actually fail to sustain you through it? 

Because those are two completely different things. Shame is when you take something you did wrong, a mistake, a wrong turn, and you attach it to your identity. That’s the mechanism. That’s the only way it gets in. 

God is still saying you’re the girl for the job. Even after the mistake. Even after the wrong direction. The word He spoke over you didn’t get revoked because your launch flopped.

So if a mistake has become who you are in your own mind, that was a choice, too. And you can make a different one today. And just remember: Embarrassment is just a pretty door for shame to come in through. Moving on… 

The God of the 13th Hour 

Let me get to the timeline, because I know that’s where the pressure is. “Erica, you don’t understand. I need this to produce right now.” 

Girl, I have been between that rock and that hard place more times than I want to admit. And that’s the season God started talking to me about the 13th hour.

We say eleventh hour faith, right? Technically, it’s the twelfth hour, but it makes no difference. It’s the hour where we’re coming face to face with the “deadline.” This is the exact place where hope usually gets dropped. Because it looks like it’s game over. 

But here’s what I want you to see… 

Our God operates outside your timeline entirely. He’s working things out in your future and seeding them back into your twelfth hour. Which means a deadline passing in the natural is not the end of the story. He resurrects things. People, circumstances, situations that looked finished.

But you can’t operate in 13th hour faith if your hope isn’t on the 13th hour God. Those two move together.

So What About Hope Deferred? 

Proverbs 13:12 says, Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. 

I know how we read that verse. We read it like God is warning us that we’re going to wait forever and we’d better learn to like it. That’s not who our God is.

Look closer at what’s actually deferring the hope. We’ve been talking about it this whole time. It isn’t the circumstance taking too long. Hope gets deferred because your heart keeps picking disappointment back up when it doesn’t happen the way you pictured, in the timeframe you wanted.

That’s the sickness. And it’s yours to put down.

So here’s the practical work, and it’s not complicated. Every single time you catch your hope sliding onto your own strength or onto your version of the promise, move it back. Right onto God. Right then. In the moment.

It sounds like this: No matter how long this takes, I know God called me to it. And if He brought me to it, He’ll bring me through it. In Jesus’ mighty name. 

That’s it. That’s the whole thing. It takes the pressure off the timeline and puts it back where it belongs. On God. 

And here’s the part I really want you to hear. You can actually accelerate your timeline this way, because the delay was never only about strategy. Some of it has been you carrying weight that was never yours. 

Those who trust in Him are never disgraced. Never put to shame. And as Paul says in Romans 5, the trouble builds endurance, endurance builds character, and character strengthens a confident hope. 

That kind of hope, he says, will never lead to disappointment. You are a Luke 8 lady in the making. You were built to fund Kingdom things out of your own substance. Don’t let disappointment talk you out of it now.

Put your hope back where it belongs, and watch disappointment die an appropriate death. It’s time for you to win.
