FOR THE KINGDOM WOMAN WHO KNOWS SHE’S CALLED, BUT CAN’T QUITE SILENCE THE VOICE THAT SAYS SHE’S A FRAUD.

You know the voice.

The one that tells you you’re a fraud. That you’re too much. That you’re going to fail, and this whole thing you’re building isn’t going to work. It tends to show up loudest right when you’re building something big — something you know God called you to — and it can stop you cold.

So here’s the question God dropped in my heart to ask you today…

Who told you that? 

Who told you that you were a fraud? Who told you that you’d never make it? Who told you that this wasn’t going to work, that you didn’t have what it takes, that you were wasting your time, that you were too late, that you weren’t capable?

Most of us never get down to the real answer. We stay up at the surface, fighting the battle at the wrong level, which is exactly why we never see the breakthrough. But we need the root answer if we’re going to get that nagging voice to stop, once and for all.

So, let’s actually go find the answer together, because once you know the truth, you’ll stop letting fear drive you, even a little bit, in this thing you’re building with and for God.

First Answer: “It Was Those People”

When God asks “who told you,” the first place most of us go is other people. Well, my mom said. My sister said. My friend said. That one comment on my post said. 

And here’s the thing… I’m not going to be the coach who tells you that other people’s opinions don’t matter at all. That’s not biblical. Proverbs tells us that in the presence of many counselors there is success.

When you’re building a business or ministry, you need spiritual accountability, community, a guide who’s gone ahead of you. “It’s just me, Jesus, and my Bible out here in these streets” is how pride sneaks in, and pride goes before a fall. So the issue was never whether people spoke into your life. The issue is what your heart did with what they said. 

Because here’s what I’ve watched happen again and again with the women I work with: It’s usually not the stranger’s troll comment that takes us out. We can shake that off — they don’t even know me. 

It’s the slightly negative thing the person closest to us said. They didn’t even have to hand you a full tear-down. They said something small, a little off, and we took it and built it into something. It expanded the second it hit our heart.

So be honest with yourself first: What did they actually say? Because I can almost guarantee it wasn’t the full weight of the thing you’ve been carrying ever since. 

The Tuning Fork in Your Heart 

Here’s what you have to understand about why those words stick… 

When someone speaks to you, it’s a note. A frequency. A tone. And your heart has tuning-fork hardware inside it. When a sound comes at you and travels down into your heart, if your heart resonates with it, you going to feel it.

It’s visceral, the same way a musician feels a string come into resonance with the tuning note — that bing where dissonance snaps into resonance. So when someone says something negative about you, and it’s not even true, but you’ve already been believing that lie about yourself… you will resonate with it. And that feeling of resonance is what convinces you it must be true. 

Hear me on this: You can only believe a lie about yourself to the degree that it’s already living inside you, waiting to be resonated with. 

That’s actually good news, because it hands the power back to you. And here’s how you test what’s real: Peace.

Colossians says to let the peace of Christ rule in your heart. If you’ve got the Holy Spirit inside you, there is no way you’ll feel peace while agreeing with a lie about yourself. 

So when a thought comes and it resonates, run the peace test. No peace? That’s your signal to take that thought captive and exchange it. That’s 2 Corinthians 10:5 in action. (Go grab the Thoughts Exchange Worksheet to help you with this: ericapyle.com/toolkit).

God Doesn’t Have a Single Negative Thought About You 

I love the story of Abraham for this. 

Abraham was promised he’d father nations. The years dragged on, so he tried to force it in his own strength. He slept with Hagar, had Ishmael, made a real mess with real lives tangled up in it. Eventually the miracle came anyway. Sarah conceived, Isaac was born, the promise landed. 

But here’s what gets me. Fast-forward to the New Testament, and what does God say about Abraham? That he did not waver at the promise through unbelief, but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God (Romans 4:20). 

Wait, What?! We’re not going to talk about the Hagar thing? The Ishmael thing? 

No. And that’s the nature of God. The Holy Spirit will convict you where you’re out of alignment so you can repent — that’s real. But God Himself does not sit around holding your failures over you.

He just keeps speaking the truth of who you are over your life, over and over, because He is the greatest tuning fork you will ever have. He keeps playing the note. Your job is to let the Holy Spirit tune your heart to His note instead of the note of the person who said you’d never be any good. 

The problem was never getting other people to say better things about you. God is always saying the best, truest thing over your life. The problem is what resonates when their words get in. 

Second Answer: “It’s the Enemy Attacking Me” 

Okay, so if it’s not ultimately “those people,” the second answer we generally reach for is: It’s the enemy. I’m under spiritual attack. He’s coming after my mind.

And listen, the mind absolutely is the battlefield. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). The minute you have a big, bold, beautiful promise on your life, you have a target on your back, because his whole job is to hold back the Kingdom as long as he can.

He can’t change the times and the seasons (Daniel 7:25), so instead he sets out to wear out the saints. That’s you. He throws dart after dart at your mind to see what will resonate.

But here’s where I have to get raw with you, Sister, because some of you need this. Blaming the enemy for everything is still a victim mentality. And if you want to do anything big with God, you have to decide right now: I will not operate in a victim spirit.

I’m not saying you were never victimized. The moment something was done to you, you were a victim — that’s real, and I’m not minimizing it. But the moment the victimization stopped, youve got to make a decision about how you’re going to walk forward from that place. 

Victim mentality, or Victor mentality. One of the best decisions you can make right there is: I forgive. I release. Now God, help me heal and put the pieces back together. 

The Real Answer: It Stops With Me 

So if it’s not ultimately the people, and it’s not ultimately the enemy… what’s the answer? 

Someone outside you may have started it. The enemy may have presented the thought. But it comes down to this: Ugh. I took the bait. I believed it. 

And I know that sounds heavy, but it’s the most freeing thing I can tell you. Because the minute you decide “it stops with me — I’m the one who can change this,” you get your power back.

As long as the answer lives outside you, you’ll be tossed to and fro every day of your life, because you can’t make people stop talking and you can’t make the enemy stop attacking.

But the moment you say “as for me and my house, as for this mind and this nervous system — we’re going to believe the Word, the will, and the ways of God”… that’s when everything shifts.

That’s the sole work: bringing your thoughts into alignment with what He says. Then your declarations line up. Then your feelings follow. Then your choices get better. And that’s where real resilience comes from. Tthe kind that lets you keep going after the thing God called you to. 

So What Do You Do With This? 

You walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). And that’s not just a nice verse — it’s a Holy “cheat code”. Your five senses only perceive a sliver of what’s actually going on around you, and your eyes will lie to you about your situation all day long. 

So you make a decision: I’m not going to trust what I see and how I’m analyzing it. I’m going to trust the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).

That’s how you guard the doors to your heart. That’s how you stop resonating with what isn’t true about you. You read the Word every day, you declare the Word every day, and you walk it out every day. That’s soul health. 

So today, name it before the Lord. The places you’ve blamed other people for what’s wreaking havoc in your heart? Those doors are a joint venture between you and God now.

Ask Him for the portion of faith to stand up in your heart and say: I will believe what God has said about me, not what others or the enemy have tried to hand me.

Because you are a Kingdom bringer. You are a Kingdom builder. And God wants to build this big, beautiful thing with you. Set your face like flint (Isaiah 50:7). What He said settles it. Now go build.
