#82: Women Making a Sound For God

May 7, 2022

Do you believe women can make a sound into the earth for Jesus and His Kingdom? How about into the Church?

If you’re a woman who’s got a sound on your life to make for Jesus and His Kingdom, you’ve got to be confident in making that sound. With so much debate in the church today around whether women are “allowed” to teach or preach, finding your confidence can be a little tricky. So, what does the Bible have to say about women making a sound for God? And what happens when we don’t know the truth but keep trying to make a sound anyway? Spoiler Alert: It isn’t good!

On this episode of the Positioned to Prosper podcast we’re taking a quick tour of some general passages of scripture that pertain to women sharing the gospel and making a sound for Jesus, and then we dig a bit deeper into Ezekiel 13 to examine what it looks like when you go “off message” as you make your sound. There’s lots to cover here, so grab your Bible, your journal and a pen, and . . . Let’s Go!

Scripture References Mentioned in This Episode:

Proverbs 4:23 —
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 —
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God[b] may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Colossians 1:15 —
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

John 1:14 —
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 20:17 —
Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

Mark 16:14 —
Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.

1 Timothy 2:12 —
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.

1 Corinthians 14:34 —
The women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says.

Ephesians 5:22 —
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

Ezekiel 13:17-23 —
“And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own hearts. Prophesy against them and say, Thus says the Lord God: Woe to the women who sew magic bands upon all wrists, and make veils for the heads of persons of every stature, in the hunt for souls! Will you hunt down souls belonging to my people and keep your own souls alive? You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death souls who should not die and keeping alive souls who should not live, by your lying to my people, who listen to lies.

“Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against your magic bands with which you hunt the souls like birds, and I will tear them from your arms, and I will let the souls whom you hunt go free, the souls like birds. Your veils also I will tear off and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand as prey, and you shall know that I am the Lord. Because you have disheartened the righteous falsely, although I have not grieved him, and you have encouraged the wicked, that he should not turn from his evil way to save his life, therefore you shall no more see false visions nor practice divination. I will deliver my people out of your hand. And you shall know that I am the Lord.”

Proverbs 18:21 —
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Matthew 7:15-20 —
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.”
