#6: Five Tips to Take You From Overwhelm to Overflow

October 24, 2020

Overwhelm. It’s probably the most cited complaint in our culture right now. How about you? Have you been feeling it?

Overwhelm feels like everything is just TOO MUCH. Noise coming at us from every angle, deadlines and turn around times being accelerated, everyone pulling on us for something. And we don’t have enough time, energy or attention span to keep it all contained. Am I right? So what are we going to do about this?

It used to be that taking a class on time management could shore some of it up, maybe putting everything onto a calendar and putting some firm boundaries around it could work, but no more. Like a game of Tetris as the rounds go by, the pieces just keep falling faster and faster and we’re just one minor distraction away from it all walling up around us and announcing “GAME OVER.”

So, what do we do? How do we overcome overwhelm when the very lifestyle of this season seems to be overwhelm? Well, I’ve got some strategies to share with you today that I think will help. So grab a journal and a pen, and press play, as Erica shares five tips to take you from overwhelm to overflow.

What you will learn in this episode:

  • What is overwhelm — really — and why do we feel so powerless when it shows up in our life;
  • What is overflow, and how do we differentiate between it and overwhelm;
  • The five tips to take you from overwhelm to overflow. Here they are stated VERY simply (but be sure to listen in to get a deeper understanding of each tip and how to practically apply each one to your life):
    1. Start Your Day With God Every Morning Before ANYTHING Else
    2. Take 20-30 Minutes of Alone Time Every Single Day
    3. Learn to RESPOND instead of reacting
    4. Journal Your Gratitude Every Single Night
    5. Consider Your Health & How It Might Be Driving Overwhelm
