#90: Are You Experiencing Real Rest?

July 9, 2022

Most Christians aren’t experiencing real rest, and it shows.

With the levels of anxiety, overwhelm and burnout we experience, is it really a surprise that most Christians aren’t really “doing rest right?” I know it just feels like one more thing to “worry” about, but when we get this rest thing “right,” it’s going to change *everything.* I promise!

In this episode of the Positioned to Prosper podcast I’m sharing the kick-off message of a series of messages I’m bringing this month at my home church — REVIVE Church of Tampa — on real rest, the kind of rest we find defined and demonstrated by God in the Bible. Are you ready to understand what real rest is and then to be empowered to step into it? If so, I want you to grab your Bible, your journal and a pen, and . . . Let’s Go!

Join the Conversation Inside The REVIVE Online Campus Community: Are you ready to join the conversation around the kind of rest that God talks about in the Bible? You’re invited into our online community — The ROCC. Head to revivetampa.org/ROCC to join the community. Inside you’ll find access to weekly messages, discipleship opportunities and more. Scripture References Mentioned in This Episode:

Genesis 1:27-28, Genesis 2:1-3
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and wall the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Hebrews 3:16 – Hebrews 4:16

Hebrews 3:18-19
And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

Hebrews 4:11
Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Philippians 2:13
For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Jeremiah 1:12
Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”
