THIS IS FOR THE WOMAN WHO’S DOING #ALLTHETHINGS AND WONDERING WHY SHE’S THE ONLY ONE WHO FEELS LIKE SHE’S DROWNING.
You’re the wife. The mom. The daughter. The friend. And you’re also carrying a business calling from God that will not leave you alone. Some days you’re crushing it. Other days you want to cry in the pantry.
If that’s you, I want to show you a woman in scripture who was doing all of that, and doing it well. But there’s something about HOW she was doing it that most teachers skip right over. And I think it might be the thing that changes everything for you.
In Episode 25 of the Jesus Girl Gang Kingdom Business Podcast, I’m cracking open Proverbs 31 in a way I’ve never heard anyone teach it. Because the Proverbs 31 woman wasn’t just a virtuous wife. She was a full-blown Kingdom entrepreneur. But there’s a reason she could do #allthethings without burning out or breaking down. Let’s get into it.

The Proverbs 31 Woman Was an Entrepreneur (And Nobody Talks About It)
Everybody teaches Proverbs 31 as the virtuous wife passage. The good Christian woman passage. And it is. But this woman was also operating in all five pillars of purpose at the same time: godly daughter of the King, godly wife, godly mother, godly sister and friend, and godly entrepreneur.
That fifth one shocks people. But it’s right there in the text.
Proverbs 31:16 says she considered a field and bought it. She was making investment decisions and evaluating opportunities. The same verse goes on to say that out of her earnings she planted a vineyard. She was reinvesting profit into a new revenue stream. Verse 18 says she saw that her trading was profitable. She was tracking her margins. And verse 24 says she made linen garments and sold them and supplied merchants with sashes. Product creation. B2B wholesale distribution.
This woman was running real estate, agriculture, manufacturing, and wholesale distribution while also being a wife, a mother, a daughter, and a friend.
Sound familiar? You’re out here trying to do the very same thing, my friend!
The Part Nobody Teaches (And It Changes Everything)
Here’s what most teachers skip right over. Verse 15 says she provides food for her family and portions for her household team. Verse 27 says she watches over the affairs of her household. She had a team. She had people around her. She had systems and support built into the way she operated.
And in Biblical culture, this was the norm. Families lived multi-generationally. Women went to the well together, did household work together, and naturally mentored each other across generations. Titus 2 talks about older women teaching younger women. That wasn’t a formal program. It was the fabric of daily life. Support, community, and guidance were baked in.
And here’s what you DON’T hear from the Proverbs 31 woman: “I’m so overwhelmed.” “Maybe I should quit.” “It’s too much.” “Maybe I heard God wrong.” None of that is anywhere in the text.
What if the reason she could carry all five pillars with excellence — and you feel like you’re drowning — isn’t because she was superwoman and you’re not? What if it’s because she had something you just haven’t built yet? And only because you haven’t realized it’s okay to need it?
She wasn’t superwoman. She was a wise Kingdom builder who refused to carry it alone. And that is what made her able to do all of these things to the glory of God with excellence — and probably with a sound mind and a healthy nervous system, too.
Why “Miss Independent” Is Actually Folly
That thing in you that says “I should be able to figure this out on my own”? That’s not strength. And it’s not wisdom. It’s actually folly. Because it’s not aligned with anything in scripture.
For many of us, this pattern started long before business. Maybe you’re the oldest daughter. Hyper-responsible. The one who learned early that if you wanted something done right, you had to do it yourself. Maybe there were even traumatic experiences that taught you: if I don’t take control, my needs won’t be met and I won’t be safe. And those patterns didn’t stay in your personal life. They overflowed into how you run a business.
But the Bible never says “figure it out.” It says trust God and obey Him.
Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Through Christ. Not through figuring it out alone. Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and wonderful things you did not know.” He’s inviting us to ask HIM, not go solve it by ourselves. And Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
When it comes to learning how to do something big, something we’ve never done before, the Biblical pattern is apprenticeship and togetherness. Jesus apprenticed under Joseph, then called twelve and apprenticed them.
Paul apprenticed under Gamaliel, then settled in Corinth and linked up with Priscilla and Aquila because they were fellow tentmakers (Acts 18:1-3). They didn’t just make tents together. They planted churches together. The togetherness carried over from business into ministry.
Nehemiah rebuilt the wall with families building sections side by side. Nobody built the whole wall alone. And Jesus sent the disciples out two by two. Not solo. Two by two.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says it plainly: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”
Miss Independent is not a badge of honor in the Kingdom. It’s a strategy of the enemy to keep you isolated so you never finish what God told you to build.
What Happens When a Kingdom Woman Stops Building Alone
One of the women in my mentorship told me: “I accomplished in a matter of weeks what I couldn’t do in six years of trying on my own.” She had the website. She had the pieces. She had the idea. But for six years she was stuck. She stepped into a room with a framework, coaching, community, and systems, and within weeks she was moving and producing. Same woman. Same calling. Same capacity. Different pattern.
Another member said: “I’d been stuck wondering if I would ever be able to move forward, and before I knew it, I was much further along than I ever imagined.”
And then there’s the woman whose son was hospitalized, whose dad needed major surgery, and whose husband was called to ministry — all at the same time. She still got her lead magnet done. She still kept building. Because she was in a room that held her arms up when life tried to take her out.
That’s what becomes possible when you stop carrying it alone. Not because you’re weak. Because you’re wise. Like the Proverbs 31 woman.
A Note for the Woman Questioning Whether Her Idea Is “Kingdom Enough”
Something you need to hear today, Sister: If you have a God-given business idea and you’ve been rejecting it because it doesn’t fit the “Kingdom language mold,” hear me: the Proverbs 31 woman planted a vineyard. She wasn’t running a Bible study ministry. She was the first step in a supply chain that ultimately produced wine. #Selah
Your business doesn’t need to have scriptures written all over it to be a Kingdom business. If God gave you the idea and you’re building it for His glory and the good of His people, it’s Kingdom business. Don’t let people who aren’t going to be your customers and aren’t going to pay your bills become your moral police. Take it back to God. Let Him tell you yes or no.

Frequently Asked Questions
Was the Proverbs 31 woman really an entrepreneur? Yes. Proverbs 31:16 says she considered a field and bought it, then planted a vineyard from her earnings. Verse 18 says she saw that her trading was profitable. And verse 24 says she made linen garments and sold them and supplied merchants with sashes. She was involved in real estate investment, agriculture, manufacturing, and wholesale distribution — all while operating in her other roles as wife, mother, daughter, and friend.
What are the five pillars of purpose in Proverbs 31? The five pillars of purpose visible in the Proverbs 31 woman’s life are: godly daughter of the King, godly wife, godly mother, godly sister/friend, and godly entrepreneur. Most teaching on this passage focuses on the first four. The entrepreneurial pillar is clearly present in the text but is rarely discussed.
Does the Bible teach independence or building alone? No. Scripture consistently models apprenticeship, partnership, and building in community. Jesus apprenticed under Joseph and then apprenticed the twelve. Paul partnered with Priscilla and Aquila in both business and ministry. Nehemiah rebuilt the wall with families working side by side. Jesus sent the disciples out two by two. Proverbs 3:5-6, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, and Philippians 4:13 all point away from self-reliance and toward dependence on God and partnership with others.
