So, how do you feel about the vengeance of God?
It’s a tough one, isn’t it? We love to hear about, talk about and meditate on the favor of God, but what if I told you that God’s favor isn’t full without His vengeance working in the same realm? It’s true!
The word vengeance is synonymous with the word retribution. Retribution is defined as “recompense or reward.” When you break down the word retribution into its prefix and root, you get “re” + “tribute.” Re means “back”, and tribute means “a payment made as a symbol of submission or the price paid for protection.” Therefore, retribution, in a Biblical sense, is the process of God taking back that which we had paid to a false idol for a false sense of safety, and giving that back to the only One who is worthy — His Son, Jesus Christ! This year will be a year of experiencing God’s favor, even as we observe Him reattributing the things that were stolen by and improperly given to the enemy, so He can tribute them back to Jesus. How awesome is that?!
In this episode of the Positioned to Prosper podcast, I’m sharing a word around God’s favor and vengeance that I brought to our church, REVIVE Church of Tampa, at last Sunday’s prayer service. It’s a word for the new year and the season we’re stepping into. I shared the word during the weekend of Rosh Hashana — the Jewish New Year — as we stepped into year 5783. What is God wanting to show us about His favor and His vengeance as we step into this pivotal season? That’s what we’re exploring in this episode, so go and grab your Bible, your journal and a pen, and . . . Let’s Go!

Scripture References Mentioned in This Episode:
Isaiah 61:1-2
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn
Deuteronomy 32:35
Vengeance is Mine, and retribution…
Psalm 144:1
Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle.
1 Samuel 30:8
And David inquired of the LORD, “Shall I pursue after this band? Shall I overtake them?” He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue.”
1 Samuel 15:13-14
And Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said to him, “Blessed be you to the Lord. I have performed the commandment of the Lord.” And Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the oxen that I hear?”
Psalm 78:5-8
He established a testimony in Jacob
and appointed a law in Israel,
which he commanded our fathers
to teach to their children,
that the next generation might know them,
the children yet unborn,
and arise and tell them to their children,
so that they should set their hope in God
and not forget the works of God,
but keep his commandments;
and that they should not be like their fathers,
a stubborn and rebellious generation,
a generation whose heart was not steadfast,
whose spirit was not faithful to God.
1 Corinthians 7:4
For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.
Acts 16:27-34
When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.” And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.
John 15:3
You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 13:17
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
1 Samuel 30:22-24
Then all the wicked and worthless fellows among the men who had gone with David said, “Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except that each man may lead away his wife and children, and depart.” But David said, “You shall not do so, my brothers, with what the Lord has given us. He has preserved us and given into our hand the band that came against us. Who would listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down into the battle, so shall his share be who stays by the baggage. They shall share alike.”
