#5: Three Steps to Making a New Habit Really Stick

Do you have a habit you want to break? How about a new one you want to establish? I’ve got the three steps you need to see those changes really stick this time!

In this episode we’re talking about what it takes to actually break those bad habits once and for all and, instead, establish the ones you’ve been wanting to see operating in your life for some time now.

We all have that thing we want to stop doing. We all have something we want to incorporate into our lifestyle. But try as we might, we can’t seem to close the deal! We chalk it up to things like, “Well, I just don’t have the time, you know. It’s going to take some seriously focused time and effort to get this thing established.” Or maybe we say, “I’ve tried, but I don’t think I have the right set of steps to get it done. I’ve tried what “so and so” did, but it didn’t work for me. So now I’m just not sure what I need to do to make it work.” Or how about this one. “Well, I’ve been praying. And I’m not really hearing God on it. I keep asking. And I’m not hearing anything, so I’m just not sure what to do at this point. I guess I’ll just keep doing my best and waiting to see if he comes in with the breakthrough.” Have you ever said any of these? Or how about this popular one: “I’ll start tomorrow.” Or next week. Ugh. We’ve all been there, right?

But here’s the thing: Human beings are BUILT for transformation. It’s in our DNA. We’re not static and hopelessly being driven towards some inevitable destiny. NO. There are more possibilities than we first thought possible. God is beyond Quantum. Millions of possibilities and belief is a part of the equation. We are hard wired for HOPE, y’all! It’s such an incredible thing.

So when we think about putting an old, nasty habit to bed or starting up a new, life giving habit, we’ve got to start from a place that says, “It is POSSIBLE for me to change. I am HARD WIRED for transformation. And the fastest way for me to step into that change is to be led there by God.” By his word, by his Spirit, by his Wisdom, by his Grace.

That’s what we’re talking about in this episode because, if you keep thinking that you just need to try harder, or find more time to focus, or if you think you just need to research until you find a better plan, you’re never going to get there. And if you keep thinking the answer is to just sit still and wait until God shows up in your bedroom one night with a plan and some supernatural stick-to-itiveness for you, well, let’s just say you’re likely going to be waiting a long time. There are some very practical, Bible-based strategies that you can employ to get change happening in your life fairly quickly, and I ‘m sharing them with you right here in this episode.
