#75: The Power of Pouring Out

March 19, 2022

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

When you are in need of something, is your first thought, “I need to pour out right now“? Why not? If Jesus’ words as recorded in Luke 6:38 are true, then giving will put you in a position for receiving. Why, then, when a deep need is felt, do most people go directly to figuring and effort, striving and maybe even a little scheming? Why don’t we take Jesus at His word?

There is power in pouring out, even when you think your cup is empty. If you’re in Christ, you are always attached to a reservoir that never runs dry; a well that will always be ready to be drawn from and poured out. So, how do we override that knee-jerk reaction we have to conserve (and even to consume what may not be ours) when we sense a need or lack? How do we make the faith-filled choice to pour out in order to receive?

That’s what we’re getting into on this week’s episode of the Positioned to Prosper podcast. So I want you to grab yourself a cozy cup of something soothing, and let’s have a chat about how pouring out in the midst of need isn’t just the most righteous choice you can make, it’s also the most powerful. Don’t forget your Bible, your journal and a pen, friend. Let’s Go!

Scripture References Mentioned in This Episode:

John 3:16 —
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Luke 6:38 —
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

1 John 3:16 —
By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

John 15:13 —
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

Philippians 2:1-11 —
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Matthew 10:38-39 —
And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

John 10:11, 17-18 —
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep….For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.
