WAITING TO FEEL READY ISN’T WISDOM, SIS… IT’S DISOBEDIENCE. AND IT’S COSTING YOU.
I know… that’s a strong opening. But if you’ve been telling yourself things like:
“I’m just being wise…”
“I’m waiting on the Lord…”
“I just don’t feel ready yet…”
“I need more information… more skills… more time…”
…and deep down you know God already told you what to do…Then friend, we need a little “Come-to-Jesus” coffee chat. ☕️ Because here’s the hard truth you need to hear right now…
Delayed obedience is still disobedience.
And most of the time, what’s underneath “I’m not ready yet” is not timing. It’s self-protection. Protection from:
- failure
- being judged
- looking stupid
- wasting money
- disappointing people
- being exposed
And I want you to hear me with love and honesty:
Self-protection isn’t humility. It’s pride disguised as wisdom.
In Episode 19 of the Jesus Girl Gang Kingdom Business Podcast, we unpack why waiting to feel ready is often disobedience, and how that delay opens the door to instability, confusion, and spiritual weariness.
Because the safest place you can be is not in control. It’s in obedience.
What We’ll Get Into in This Episode
Inside Episode 19, we get very real about the reasons you keep delaying what God already told you to do, and why that delay is not harmless.
Here’s what we cover:
✅ Why “I’ll move when I feel ready” is not a biblical concept.
✅ The difference between waiting on God and stalling on the sidelines.
✅ Why the enemy loves the lie: “You’re not ready yet”.
✅ How demanding understanding before obedience puts you out of order.
✅ Why self-protection is rooted in pride (and what pride produces in your life).
✅ How delayed obedience creates double-mindedness and instability.
✅ Why obedience is time-sensitive, and delay costs you (and costs others).
✅ How “hyper-mercy” and codependency can disguise disobedience.
✅ The tools to help you identify where you’re self-protecting and exchange fear for truth.

The Hot Take: “Waiting to Feel Ready” Is a Trap
Here’s the illusion most of us have believed: If I was supposed to move, I would feel ready to move. But the world trains us to believe readiness is a feeling.
Overprotective parenting trains us to believe the safest path is slow and careful. And the enemy uses that sound — “not yet… not yet… not yet…” — to keep you at the starting line.
Because if he can’t keep you out of salvation… and he can’t kill you… he will try to:
- wear you out
- slow you down
- keep you from purpose
- stop your assignment
And if you’re building a Kingdom business? That’s exactly what he wants. Because every Kingdom builder expands the Kingdom. So no… this is not just a “business delay.” This is a spiritual lulling to sleep, Sister.
Scripture Makes It Clear: People Rarely “Felt Ready” When God Said GO
If “feeling ready” was the standard… most of the Bible wouldn’t exist.
Gideon didn’t feel ready. He argued. (Judges 6)
Moses didn’t feel ready. He gave five excuses. (Exodus 3–4).
Mary didn’t feel ready. She asked, “How can this be?” (Luke 1)
Abraham was told, “Go to a place I’ll show you.” No destination. Just movement. (Genesis 12)
Here’s what’s consistent: God speaks. Then He expects movement. And readiness often shows up after obedience… not before it.
You Don’t Need to Understand in Order to Obey
This is where the pride piece gets real. Because what a lot of us mean when we say “I’m not ready yet” is: “I need to understand how this will work first.”
But biblically? Understanding comes out of faith — not before it.
Faith without works is dead. (James 2:17) And Proverbs 3:5–6 says it plainly:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…”
If your obedience requires total understanding, you are not trusting God. You’re asking to be in control. And that’s not discernment. That’s self-reliance.
“I Don’t Want to Hurt People” Can Be Hyper-Mercy in Disguise
This part of the episode might stretch you — but I need you to hear it.
Sometimes we delay obedience because we say:
- “I don’t want to inconvenience my family…”
- “I don’t want to upset anyone…”
- “I don’t want to pressure people…”
- “I don’t want to hurt anyone…”
And it sounds noble. But often, it’s not love. It’s codependency. It’s trying to manage:
- people’s reactions.
- people’s emotions.
- what they think about you.
And friend… you can’t love people better than God can. If God told you to move, then trust that He sees what you can’t see. Sometimes people need to go through discomfort so God can work salvation, deliverance, and growth in their lives.
When you delay because you’re trying to protect everyone… you may be protecting them from the very breakthrough God intended.
Delayed Obedience Creates Double-Mindedness (And That’s Why You Feel Unstable)
James 1:5–8 says: If you ask God for wisdom, ask in faith with no doubting because the doubter is like a wave, tossed by the wind. And then it says this: “He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
Here’s what that looks like in business: God tells you what to do. You say, “Yes, Lord.” …but then you delay. That “yes… but” creates double-mindedness.
And instability follows:
- anxiety
- second-guessing
- imposter syndrome
- insecurity
- constant pivoting
- emotional exhaustion
If you hate feeling unstable…
The solution is not more thinking.
It’s immediate obedience.
Because (James 4:6): “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humility obeys even when unsure. Pride negotiates terms with God.
The Real Cost of Self-Protection
So what is it actually costing you to keep self-protecting? Not just in business outcomes — but in the spirit. It costs you:
- time and momentum
- tenderness of heart
- clarity
- peace
- authority
- energy
- confidence
- spiritual protection and positioning
- alignment for “right place, right time” moments
And it costs others too. Because the people you’re called to serve? They’re waiting for your obedience. Your business is not just about you. It’s about your assignment.
🎯 This Week’s Activation Step (With Tools)
This week, we are not just journaling. We are getting in prayer and calling ourselves out. Here’s the question: “Where am I self-protecting instead of obeying immediately?”
To help you do that, I created two free resources for you:
✅ The 4 Questions Prayer Template
✅ The Thoughts Exchange Worksheet
👉 Download both free here: ericapyle.com/toolkit

Step 1: Use the 4 Questions Prayer Template
Bring your delay before the Lord and ask:
- God, what do You see and say about this?
- What does this mean for me? (repentance? forgiveness? repositioning?)
- What is my role, responsibility, and permission here?
- What is my next best step?
Step 2: Use the Thoughts Exchange Worksheet
Any time you uncover a lie, fear, or doubt, do the exchange. Because 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to:
“Take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.” Identify the lie. Ask God for truth (and Scripture). Then move.
Friend — if you’ve been delaying… I’m not here to shame you. I’m here to call you back to obedience.
Because grace is waiting for you on the other side of your “yes.” And the world needs what God put in you.
Talk soon. 💛
