NEWS FLASH: IF YOU LET FEAR DRIVE YOUR BUSINESS, IT WILL SHRINK EVERYTHING.
That’s the headline. And I know it’s a strong one. But if you’ve been saying things like:
“Something feels off…”
“I’m nervous, so maybe that means I shouldn’t do it…”
“I should probably wait until I feel perfectly sure…”
…then we need to talk.
Because sometimes what we are calling discernment is not the Holy Spirit at all.
It’s anxiety. It’s foreboding. It’s fear of man. It’s fear of failure. It’s fear of loss. And it is trying to drive the bus of your business.
In Episode 20 of the Jesus Girl Gang Kingdom Business Podcast, we unpack one of the most deceptive strongholds in a Kingdom woman’s life and business: fear masquerading as wisdom.
Sister, discernment is a gift from God. Fear is not. And if you let fear lead, it will:
- shrink your obedience
- limit your impact
- sabotage your calling
- and quietly torpedo your business
This episode topic is deeply personal for me. I shared about my history with severe postpartum anxiety, my relapse in 2016–2017, and the ways anxiety tried to hijack not just my mind and body, but also my decisions, my confidence, and my business.
So no, this isn’t theoretical. This is a word forged in the fire, my friend.
What We’ll Get Into in This Episode
Inside Episode 20, we go straight at the lie that fear is helping you.
Here’s what we cover:

The Big Lie: Fear Is Helping Me
Let’s start here: A lot of women don’t think fear is hurting them. They think it’s helping them. They think:
- fear is making me appropriately careful.
- anxiety is making me rightly responsible.
- nervousness is a sign for me to wait.
- thinking a lot about it (overthinking) is wisdom.
- foreboding is the voice of the Spirit via discernment.
But friend… none of that is true. Discernment is not suspicion. Discernment is not dread. Discernment is not catastrophic thinking.
I said it in the episode like this: Suspicion is the wicked and illegitimate stepsister of discernment.
What fear actually does is hijack the hardware discernment runs on. It uses your thoughts, your emotions, your body, and your imagination to send you into:
- what-if loops
- future-based panic
- self-protection
- avoidance
- shrinking back
And then you call that “wisdom” because you feel safe in the moment. But the Word says otherwise. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
Fear is not the language of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit does not catastrophize. He convicts. He clarifies. He anchors. He leads.
My Story: Anxiety Is Loud, But It’s Not Lord
I shared in this episode about my own history with severe postpartum anxiety after the birth of my second son. On day three postpartum, I lost it. I’m talking:
- panic
- pacing
- inability to eat
- inability to sleep
- inability to care for myself
- dyskinesia
- near psychosis
That’s what was written in my chart. And later, I had another flare in 2016–2017 that gave 2010’s breakdown a run for its money. So when I say I understand what it feels like when anxiety gets loud, I mean it. And here’s what I learned: Two things can be true at the same time.
- This can really be happening to you. Your body can be reacting. Your mind can be spiraling. Your nervous system can be overloaded.
- You still have a choice in how you respond. You are not powerless. You are not without help. You are not abandoned to it.
That was one of the most important revelations of my healing journey.
Because I’m not interested in shaming women for struggling. I’m interested in helping women get free.
Spirit, Soul, and Body: Why This Matters So Much
In the episode, I explained something that has been really important in my own healing: You are a triune being. You are a spirit. You have a soul. You live in a body.
And when your spirit knows truth, but your soul is not aligned with that truth, your body often starts telling the story.
That misalignment can produce:
- anxiety
- panic
- heaviness
- dread
- hypervigilance
- depression
Again, this is not about blame. This is about understanding.
Because once you understand what’s happening, you can start partnering with God for healing in all three places: spirit, soul, and body. That’s what I had to do.
There were seasons where God was teaching me how to support my body: sleep, supplements, food, movement, nervous system support.
And there were seasons where He was teaching me how to align my soul: think better, declare better, choose better, respond by faith, stop letting fear narrate my future.
That’s why this episode matters so much. Because if you don’t learn to interrupt fear, it becomes a stronghold. And strongholds don’t just affect your thoughts. They affect your business.
What Fear Looks Like in Business
When fear is driving your business, it does not usually announce itself with a sign. It shows up in patterns.
It looks like:
- underpricing because you’re afraid to charge appropriately.
- avoiding visibility because you don’t want to be judged.
- not launching because you keep telling yourself one more step is needed.
- not following up because you’re afraid of what people will think.
- quietly quitting and disappearing into the bushes.
- not investing because fear says you’ll look stupid if it doesn’t work.
- staying small and safe instead of building with conviction.
- calling stagnation contentment because at least that sounds holy.
And that’s why this matters. Because fear does not merely make you uncomfortable. It constricts.
It makes everything smaller: your reach, your obedience, your confidence, your risk tolerance, your stewardship, your fruit. Fear is a constrictor.
Scripture Is Clear: Fear Buries What God Gave You
One of the most important biblical anchors in this episode is Matthew 25 — the Parable of the Talents.
The servant with one talent buried it. Why? Because he was afraid. He thought fear would protect what he had been given. Instead, fear caused him to hide it. And he was rebuked for it. That is such an important word for Kingdom women in business.
Because fear does not protect what God gave you. It buries it. And when you bury your message, your offer, your calling, your visibility, your business… You do not become safer. You become smaller.
Fear Opens Doors
I also talked about Job 3:25: “For the thing that I feared has come upon me…” That verse was a wake-up call for me. Because it made me realize that fear is not some harmless internal experience. Fear opens doors. Fear makes agreements. Fear creates footholds.
Fear tells your life to organize around worst-case scenarios instead of around the promises of God. And that is not how Kingdom builders are meant to live.
The Better Way: Trust God, Fear the Lord, and Build From Faith
This is where Proverbs 3:5–10 becomes so powerful. And I read it in the Amplified for a reason. Because it doesn’t just say “trust God.” It shows us what trust actually does.
Proverbs 3:5–10
- Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart.
- Do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
- In all your ways know and acknowledge Him.
- He will make your path straight and smooth, removing obstacles.
- Do not be wise in your own eyes.
- Fear the Lord with reverent awe and obedience.
- Honor the Lord with your wealth and firstfruits.
- Then your barns will be abundantly filled.
This is not small. This is a business word. Because when fear drives you, you lean on your own understanding. When faith drives you, you trust God enough to obey and steward.
And the result of trusting Him is not loss. It’s alignment. It’s provision. It’s overflow. It’s abundance. That is why I say all the time: The answer is not fear of the future. It is fear of the Lord. Because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Not panic. Not foreboding. Not anxiety.
How to Tell the Difference Between Anxiety and Discernment
This is one of the most practical parts of the episode. Anxiety sounds like: urgent, catastrophic, future-focused, body-based panic, spiraling, “what if”, shrink back, avoid, and delay. Discernment sounds like: specific, calm, grounded, scripturally aligned, clear, peace-filled, and forward-moving.
Colossians teaches that the peace of Christ is to rule in your heart. That is one of the clearest markers. Real discernment does not produce internal chaos and paralysis. It produces grounded clarity.
And yes, if you’ve practiced anxiety for a long time, switching into discernment can feel like a big leap. That’s why process matters. That’s why tools matter. That’s why renewing the mind matters.
🎯 This Week’s Activation Step (With Tools)
This week, I want you to stop guessing and get specific.
Go to: 👉 ericapyle.com/toolkit.
Download the free toolkit. Inside, I want you to use the Thoughts Exchange Worksheet first.

Here’s the process:
Step 1: Identify the fear
Look at your business and ask: Where am I letting anxiety, foreboding, fear, or a lie drive me?
- Name it.
- Write it down.
- Be honest.
Step 2: Ask what’s true
- Is this scriptural?
- If not, what does God say instead?
- Find a verse that confronts the fear.
Step 3: Make the exchange
Use the Thoughts Exchange Worksheet to replace: the lie, the doubt and fear with truth. This is 2 Corinthians 10:5 in action: “Take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.”
Step 4: Take one aligned action immediately
- Do not stop with journaling.
- Take one courageous action that aligns with the truth you just received. Because once you replace the fear with truth, the next step is movement.
- And if you need help finding the truth and hearing clearly from God, use the 4 Questions Prayer Template in the toolkit too.
That tool will help you ask:
- What do You see and say, Lord?
- What does this mean for me?
- What is my role and responsibility here?
- What is my next best step?
Friend, You Do Not Have to Let Anxiety Run This Business
That’s really the heart of this episode. You may have felt anxiety. You may have battled panic. You may have lived with hypervigilance. You may have let fear drive for a while. But that does not have to be the future of your business.
You are not called to build from dread. You are not called to build from suspicion. You are not called to build from shrinking back. You are called to build from:
- faith
- trust
- reverence
- obedience
- truth
- and the sound mind the Holy Spirit gives
And yes — sometimes that looks like supporting your body, renewing your mind, praying in the Spirit, praising through the panic, and using practical tools to stay aligned. That’s not weakness. That’s wisdom.
